    Default Demolish residence for palace

Im planning to make a chief from my spawn village but i already have residence on it,
is it better to demolish it and make a level 15 palace or should i level it to 20?

You're better off going to 15 in the palace.

But you're actually much better off using a different town that doesn't have any expansion slots used yet. Build a palace to 15 in that town and you get 2 chiefs to use -- which makes your chiefing attempt much faster.

Do that in 3 towns and you can grab a town in one pass through.

Many folks like to get a palace to 20 in their hammer for a 3-chief town.

    FYI:
A palace to 15 is 332,080 total rez.
A residence from 10 to 20 will cost you 715,320.
    (Palace to 20 is 1,161,425)

Thanks, I'll just build it in my town without expansion slots.

No, you can still use them without a Palace or a Residence.

Be careful not to get them killed though, you will need to rebuild your Palace/Residence to be able to rebuild the Settlers/Chiefs.

Yes you will lose a chief, but you will lose only one. If the wave that conquers the village has 3 chiefs, only one chief is consumed.

Note that chiefing your own town does still lose you the wall and all troops and research done in that town.

But why would you chief your own town? I could see if someone else had chiefed it and you wanted it back but at that point it's not yours, strictly speaking, anymore.

not saying it sounds dumb or anything... I am pretty sure there's a game-play trick involved with this or it never would have occurred to people... I am just noobish and can't figure out what it is.

To shuffle around expansion slots. Once I took over an account that needed some work - the hammer had two villages settled from it, and luckily they were both feeders. I built chiefs in other villages and chiefed the two villages that were using my hammer's expansion slots. After that, I built a palace in my hammer so I could have 3 chiefs in my hammer.

    ^this.

Top players usually have 3 chiefs in their hammer.

Occasionally you may accidentally chief a town with one of those chiefs. In this case, you self-chief it from another town so that you can rebuild your 3rd chief.

(having 3 chiefs in 1 town is very powerful b/c it allows for a more stream-lined chiefing run)
