Default Christmas Truce Poll

Hi all,

It is that time of the year again. As some of you may remember from last year, we said that we would have an "official" poll this year to see what you (the players) think of having a "Christmas Truce".

There will only be two options: to have it, or to not have it. This will keep it simple, and will allow us to see more clear results.

Options:

Quote:
Option 1) Have the truce. All attacks will be disabled from noon EST on December 24th until midnight EST on December 25th. Starvation will also be turned off from noon EST on December 24th until midnight EST on December 26th (so basically half of the 24th and all of the 25th for the cease-fire, and then non-starvation will continue for all of the 26th as well). Note that this means that troops will not starve for a full 24 hours after attacks resume. During this time troops will still consume wheat, however they will not starve once you run out of wheat. During the entire break all other activities will go on as normal, meaning you may still login, build, trade, send messages, etc. NOTE: THE CHRISTMAS TRUCE WOULD NOT APPLY TO US5 SINCE IT IS CURRENTLY (AND WILL BE) IN END-GAME DURING THAT TIME.

Option 2) Not have the truce.
We believe this will give everyone a chance to spend time doing whatever they wish for the Holidays. We realize that not everyone celebrates Christmas, but we also know that everyone can use a break regardless of what you do with that. =)

The poll will remain open for about a week. After the poll is over, the results will be taken into consideration when we make the final decision. Remember that the outcome of this poll does NOT guarantee anything, it is only a part of what will be considered in the decision.

I will leave this thread unlocked for general comments. Please keep it civil or you will be given a different kind of break via a forum ban.

UPDATE:

I received a reply back regarding some questions that were raised, so here is the information:

Attacks sent prior to the truce will still land, but will do not damage. During the truce, the system will allow you to send attacks, however when the attacks land they will only bring a Christmas greeting and do not damage. Scouting and reins are exempt from this, and should work as usual.

UPDATE 2:

More info regarding questions:

Attacks sent during the truce but landing after the truce will work as normal. You should not be able to attack any oasis (nature or player owned).

Thank you,
US Travian Team

Ok now for the reply:

Yes have one please this time, except make the truce from like the 23rd-26th maybe so if people want to do some long-range stuff before hand the people with incomings don't need to scramble during this time.

Also what about s5? Poor guys don't be allowed to attack WWs? That might really screw their game up.

I only got second vote.

I'm putting this in late to answer my opinion on the Christmas issue without it being on page 11. I think part of the reason Travian usually has a Christmas truce is because traditionally, there really is a military truce on Christmas. Fighting even stopped on Christmas during WWII. Of course, Washington crossed the Deleware on Christmas, so that's not always the case, but generally, there's a break in the fighting.

I'm rather tired of hearing the debate about whether or not it is right to make the truce because some people may not celebrate Christmas.

I believe Christmas is a secular holiday now.

Sounds like a good idea to me. The only question I have is what happens with attacks sent out at say 11:59AM EST? Would they still be able to hit or would they just be returned?

I'll have to check on that. I'll update the post when I know the answer. =)

I voted no, just because a lot of people celebrate x-mas doesnt mean everyone does.

Are we gonna instate a 'truce' for St. Patricks Day? Most of us will be drunk as **** and incapable of properly defending. Chinese New Years too plz, I can't resist the lights and explosions of their fantastic fireworks.

If all these players are going to be away and unable to defend, doesnt that mean they'll also all be away and unable to attack? Seems to me like the problem kinda solves itself

why don't we have a hannukah truce? 8 days of not being attacked would be nice.

The truce would be great Tar except for one thing:

People that depend on farming to feed their massive troop counts could be helped by this (now that I read your post all the way XD). They could stock up on wheat, where without the truce they would've starved.

Also, mum is the word on reins as well as the word on troop building and attacks already sent before the truce goes into effect. I see the potential for exploitation.

Even if I was about to farm/catapult someone, the truce gives them time to build up after my scouting. That's a potential problem. If you're going to truce, you'd have to code it so that absolutely no spending resources on military, no attacks would be able to be sent that would land after the truce comes into effect, and no sending reins that would land after the truce goes into effect. Otherwise, it's too easy to tip the scales in loads of minor conflicts.

If those kinks were worked out, I might change my vote. Nice try though Tar. <3.
