I'd say that it's largely due to many believing that a vote for a third-party candidate is a wasted vote. I believe that California has passed a law where the two largest vote recipients in the primaries run against each other in the general election regardless of party. Meaning that if two Democrats running for the party's nomination for Governor each received more votes than the Republican primary winner, the choice on the ballot for Californians would be to choose between the two Democrats.

Being a libertarian (or classic liberal for you history buffs reading) means that I am completely opposed to these kinds of laws and believe that people should have a right to choose who they wish to vote for without restraint or interference from government that wishes to use their political power to diminish choice because it's perceived as a threat to their power.

In a heavily gerrymandered FPTP system like the US, a vote for a third party is a waste of a vote.

How short sighted of you. To continue to vote for either broken, bought party is to participate in the downfall of the US ... or other countries with similar ****** systems.
My vote is my voice and my voice is saying I am done supporting garbage.

There are still people that support the Canadian/Britpoor version of voting where the winning representative of a location received less than a majority of the votes for that location?

    That is US election!

Damn skippy. You don't vote for a turd because it's the shiniest turd available, or because the other turd smells worse.

    Trump is not 3rd party:

    0000-1987: Democratic
    1987-1999: Republican
    1999-2001: Reform
    2001-2009: Democratic
    2009-2011: Republican
    2011-2012: Independant
    2012-0000: Republican

He got elected as a republican!

If you look back at the election, the Republicans and democrats did everything they could to stop him, they are both doing everything they can now to ruin his term. Noone in our government wants to see him succeed, the only people cheering for him are American citizens. So yeah, third party. He would have won as an independent.

    Trump is simply anti-establishment.

Bernard Gutman, Chief Elizabeth "Pocahontas" Warren, Gary "What's Aleppo" Johnson and Jill "Stalin did nothing wrong" Stein are all hardcore establishment. Voting for these people, or similar, were proxy votes for Hillary Clinton

    False.

Are you asserting that people that voted for Jill Stein would have voted for Trump if she wasn't on the ticket?

I can MAYBE see an argument with Johnson taking away votes from Trump, but most libertarians (myself included) wouldn't have voted for Trump if he was the only person on the ticket.

Well, don't forget Nigel Farage, most nationalist would go with trump, since they are anti-globalisation!

However the globalist control america, it would be hard for trump to fight them, he need something special to win that war!

Probably he need some advice from Putin!

Due to Athenian mistreatment of its allies, they began to either embrace Sparta, or to stand aside and allow Sparta to claim victory.

Sort of like the way the US is turning to treat its allies.

There was also Alcibiades, a rich political outsider who convinced Athenian voters to trust him but was actually playing for his own gain, resulting in huge wastes of resources on his pet projects. Yet, the Athenians loved him.

Sounds a bit like someone more contemporary, and more orange.

Anyway, I'm just saying, it's not a good thing if "only American citizens are cheering him." That's not something to be proud of. You want your allies to be happy, you want people to like you. Otherwise you end up internationally isolated, which isn't good.

What do you mean by this? The Obama administration was widely liked internationally by US allies, excluding Israel. (The only US ally with complaints against the Obama admin of which I am aware is Israel, which is a special case anyway.)

So you are ignoring the fact that they insulted him, before winning the election.
