Settler - Can I?

I'm pretty new to the game and want to expand my empire, but I can't. After being religiously attacked early on in the game I decided to build up a few crannys to soften the blow of being raided. Problem is that now I have no room left to build a palace or residence in order to build any settlers. I suppose this is my fault for not looking too far ahead, but I was under the impression that I could eventually disband a cranny or two once I no longer needed them.

Is there any way to expand and have more villages if I can't build a palace or residence? Is there any way to tear down buildings that I don't need anymore. If not, then I guess I'm done with this whole game because it's taken too long just to build up one village only to be stuck.

Any suggestions?

You need a Palace or Residence to acquire new villages. You can tear down buildings by getting your main building to level 10, then there will be a demolish option available in it.

You need a Palace/Residence to make settlers. After getting your main building to level 10, buildings can be demolished one level at a time, getting quicker as your main bulding levels up.

However, demolition can be slow, so most people prefer catapulting down unneccessary buildings.

To expand on that...
once you get the main building to 10, inside you'll be able to take down other buildings (such as the cranny) one level at a time. It takes a little while (unless you're online frequently) to demolish 10 levels of a building (e.g. cranny), but it will open up a spot.

The OP indicated that excess crannies were the issue, catapults cannot target crannies so they shouldn't be used in this case.

Although Crannies can't be targeted, most other buildings can, and I doubt he'll only demolish Crannies during his time in Travian.

When you get your Palance/Residence to Lvl 10, then you can get settlers/ get more villages. You need a lvl 10 Main Building to Demolish.

i suggest you take 1 or 2 levels away from your warehouse if he is attacking before destroying a cranny.

Try having only a few crannies, and just spend down. Demolishing crannies is pretty quick.
